Job Title: Whitewater River Guide                                   

Job Description: Asheville Adventure Company is seeking energetic and charismatic Whitewater River staff to guide rafting  trips on the French Broad River for the upcoming season! This fun and fast paced job lets you use your personality, leadership skills, and knowledge of whitewater, all while leading guests safely down the river for an ultimate outdoors experience. 

Pay: Starting rate is $13-$16 an hour, increasing with experience / certifications (WFA, WFR, and SWA), PLUS tips.

Job Type: Part-time or Full-time options available. Peak season between Memorial day through Labor day.

Scheduling: Weekend and holiday availability necessary. Holidays within our seasonal operation period include Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day. Flexible scheduling available with advance notice. We encourage our guides to take time off to travel during the season to keep them energized and refreshed when they’re guiding! 

Training: Extensive on and off river training includes safety, expectations, policies, and procedures. New guides will attend a 1 week training course. This course will teach everything needed to take customers down the river. This course is offered free of charge, pay begins upon completion of training. Experienced guides will attend a short workshop to learn our procedures. All guides will attend a CPR/ First aid course. 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Trip preparation: inflating and loading rafts; obtaining PFD’s, helmets, paddles, etc.
  • Meet, greet, and check in guests and ensure waivers have been signed
  • Execute safety talk to review essential safety precautions for the trip
  • Guide an attentive, fun, engaging, unique, and safe experience
  • Complete assigned end of trip duties, sanitize/clean equipment, vehicles, and spaces
  • Provide support and assistance for other staff and trips including shuttle driving

Required Experience: No specific rafting or paddling experience necessary. Positive attitude and willingness to work hard and learn is a must!

Preferred Experience: Class I, II, and III Whitewater paddling or guiding experience is preferred but not required. Any additional outdoor adventure guiding experience is preferred.

Other Essential Job Requirements:  

  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds on an ongoing and daily basis and be in good physical health
  • Confident and strong in swimming and navigating a river 
  • Ability to identify needs, take action, and solve problems in a quick manner
  • Ability to work productively, professionally, and positively with guests and staff
  • Efficient time management, organizational, and multitasking skills
  • Culturally aware and sensitive, team oriented, and safety conscious
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License required
  • CPR/First Aid required (course provided to those who need it)
  • Swift Water Rescue Certification is preferred
  • Interest in additional guiding opportunities within the company is preferred (specifically e-bike)
