What to Expect on Your Asheville Backpacking Tour
There’s nothing quite like experiencing the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains by camping under the stars. On this overnight backpacking trip, you and your fellow hikers will explore remote areas at higher elevations. Our Asheville Overnight Backpacking Trips may vary, but here is a sample itinerary for a standard trip.
Day 1/Night 1
The tour will start in Asheville with an experienced guide and you and your fellow travelers will take a one-hour ride to the Flat Laurel Creek trailhead. From there, everyone will embark on a one-hour hike into camp and take a quick swimming hole break along the way. The camp’s tents and hammocks will be completely set up before your arrival, so everyone can spend the afternoon relaxing. Dinner will be served at 6 pm.
Day 2/Night 2
At 8 am breakfast and coffee will be served, and you will depart around 10 am to hike to Sam Knob (elevation 6,045 ft). Lunch will be prepared and served at the summit at noon and everyone can spend the afternoon exploring the area and taking photos of the surrounding views. Everyone will hike back and return to camp around 3 pm. You can relax with fellow hikers around a campfire while dinner is prepared and served at 6 pm.
On the final day of the backpacking trip, breakfast and coffee are served at camp and you will begin hiking out by 10 am. A van will arrive at noon to take everyone back to Asheville, along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Things to Note for Your Asheville Overnight Backpacking Trip
Exact itineraries are subject to change and everyone will be hiking through back woods on this trip (cell service may not be available in all locations). At higher elevations, you will hike through different ecosystems/weather and should be prepared with your own rain gear. Guides have first responder training and an emergency action plan in place, if needed.
On your trip, you can expect to encounter wildlife.
If inclement weather is expected for the majority of the trip, the trip can be rescheduled or canceled with refund.
